Why didn’t Nixon think of this?

Bush team blocks suits with state secrets claim / Critics complain that action stifles judicial review, public debate

Washington — Facing a wave of litigation challenging its eavesdropping at home and its handling of terror suspects abroad, the Bush administration is increasingly turning to a legal tactic that swiftly torpedoes most lawsuits: the state secrets privilege.

If only Nixon had thought of this he could have brushed Watergate aside, and stood proudly with his shoulders back and told the country “You are a bunch of unpatriotic commie sympathizers for prying into secret matters of the state.”

The shame of it is that while the country stood up to Nixon for bugging a hotel room, we have stood by and done little more than wring our hands while Bush bugged us all.
