Welcome to the personal website of Chris Knight, Bohemian Adventurer and genius at large. Being the geek that I am, it is not enough to have a website; I had to build the server from which it is hosted. This page is a tribute to the free technologies which make that possible.
FreeBSD is my first choice in a server operating system. It is stable, easily updated, has a coherent CVS system for obtaining patches and updates. I know that Linux is the trendy choice, but it is easier for me to keep ten FreeBSD boxes up to date than it is to keep one RedHat box.
I built my first web server with the NCSA httpd server. It was a complete pain in the ass. I built my second web server with Apache, and it has been my web server of choice ever since.
While I won't say that this site is 'best viewed' with Mozilla/Firefox, I will say that of the various web browsers out there this is the most standards compliant browser I have ever used. I will also state that I don't waste any of my time trying to compensate for places where Internet Explorer is rendering HTML incorrectly.
My reading materials have shaped who I am and provided me
with the tools to go where I want and do as I please. These guys want to pay me
to share that information with you... Isn't that nifty?
